How fast shall I lose?
I asked my doctor this question, too.
He told me that one pound a week is good; two for those in a hurry; and four for those in a rush.
I was in a rush!
He advised me to fortify myself with vitamins and mineral tablets, which I did, and to eat lots of the protective foods-cheese, milk, meat, eggs, and fish.
I found that these "protective foods" kept me from being hungry in the tough periods of the day-mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and before bedtime.
No more faint feeling. No hunger pains. It's much more comfortable that way.
WHAT CAUSES HUNGER PAINS?
My doctor told me it is the stomach contracting that causes you to have "hunger pains."
The movement of the stomach walls contracting makes you "feel hunger," although sometimes it is the habit of eating at certain times that sets up that gnawing feeling.
Within 7 to 10 days, though, my stomach was already getting smaller from holding less food. It contracted less, and I failed to get "hungry" as quickly.
Eating three normal meals a day kept my stomach feeling "full."
By dieting in the proper ways

On my one-meal-a-day schedule, when I dumped a heavy meal into my stomach at night, it stretched just like a balloon does when it's filled with water.
I'm told that my stomach can hold six pounds of food a day-and two pounds per meal is certainly a lot easier on the stomach walls than six pounds all dumped into it at one time.
MY "THREE-DAY WONDER PLAN"
Like a good many fatties. I go to a lot of dinners and luncheons and banquets.
What to do?
Insult the chef and provoke the hostess by whipping out your Calorie Counter and announcing dramatically, "I'm on a diet!"???
Believe me, nobody's going to be pleased if you glare suspiciously at your dinner and start yanking out your Fat Boy's "Slide Rule," adding up under your breath as you go.
Instead, here's what I do. It's my three-day wonder plan.
In order to reduce at the proper rate, I was told not to eat more than 1,500 calories per day. (I often ate only 1,000 to speed things up.)
Fifteen hundred calories is 3,000 in two days, or 4,500 over three days.
So I count over a three-day period!
